I can't see their faces

This year, Tinnitus Awareness Week is probably more at the forefront of my mind, given the difficulties that have been experienced over the last year and how they have impacted on communication and isolation. Reflecting, as I often do at the end of a year, on how on earth I managed through the last 9 months of 2020 (let alone the past 4 years) I decided over the coming weeks to share some of the little things that helped see me through. Before I do so though, let talk a little about the safety precautions that are necessary in stemming the flow of this wretched virus and the unfortunate detrimental impact they have on people with hearing impairments. Face coverings are absolutely essential in keeping whatever germs one is carrying to themselves. Seriously, I can't believe we didn't use them before during cold and flu season. Added bonus, no more sexist comments "you'd be much prettier if you smiled love" or "cheer up, might never happen" ! ...

So peaceful until....

Whenever you say to someone that you have tinnitus, the most common response is "oh, I have that" . While most mean well with that comment, they don't truly get what I mean. They may have had a ringing in the ears after coming out of a club or a a gig, or get the occasional bout, for reasons unknown every now and then. They may even have it more permanently, but at low levels that don't bother them. When I say I have tinnitus, I mean that I am aware of a persistent noise, within my head, at all hours of the day. The only peace I get is in sleep, which at first, was hard to come by. If you haven't made the connection yet to the rather witty (if I do say so myself) name of this blog and the sound which I hear, the reference to static is the one constant in my hearing. I have discussed before the differing sounds which I hear, which are often heard in unison with the white noise, and the change in pitch and tone, with no obvious trigger. Some peopl...

Inspired by lyrics which accurately describe my experiences and feelings, this blog is dedicated to all the music I love, but will never sound the same to me since partially losing my hearing and suffering with tinnitus every minute of every hour of every day.
